Hakim Ziyech’s late strike helps the blue to overcome stubborn crystal palace

Hakim Ziyech scored the last-minute winning goal as Chelsea beat Crystal Palace on their return to the Premier League.

Thomas Tuchel’s side last played in the Premier League almost a month ago when they beat Tottenham, and they have a week off from winning the Club World Cup last Saturday.

It looked like they would be frustrated by the hosts, but Ziyech jumped out at the far post to pet a delicious volley from Marcos Alonso’s cross.

Moroccan Ziyech had transformed early in the second half when he went home after Jack Butland’s save, but Romelu Lukaku was judged offside by the VAR.

Vicente Guaita made good saves in the first half from a shot by N’Golo Kante and a long-range ray from Antonio Rudiger, before the Palace goalkeeper was pulled out at half-time with a knee injury.

The home team, meanwhile, did not shoot on goal throughout the match: both Michael Oliseh and Wilfried Zaha failed to get Edouard Mendy to work from promising positions.
