Benzema surpasses a record by Messi with brace in semi-final loss vs Man City

The French striker was instrumental in keeping the Blancos alive in the competition with a goal in all halves.

The match between Manchester City and Real Madrid turned out to be what to expect from a semi-final draw and more, and although the hosts won by four goals, the real standout player of the match was once again Karim Benzema.

It was one of those nights for the Frenchman, who scored a goal in each half of the clash to keep the Blancos in contention for the title.

In addition to that, the striker has earned a couple of records for his resume, one that has to do with what Lionel Messi had done for Barcelona in his years there.

The former Olympique Lyon player has scored for the 14th time in the current UEFA Champions League season, enough to take him to the top of the competition’s top scorers list for the first time in his long career.

But the real milestone comes when you add up those goals with the ones he scored in La Liga, which adds up to forty goals in a season, the first time he’s done that since becoming a professional player.
